Cherry on Top—The Bright Red Lip, for Fall 2012

If coral looks common and tangerine seems tiresome, that’s because there’s a new lip trend on the horizon. Orange is over. Now it’s the Cherry Mouth, and it’s hot for fall 2012.

“The red lip takes your makeup to the next level,” Nordstrom Beauty Director Joelle Russo told me.

This candied-apple color takes on new intensity when paired with a smoldering ombré eye as seen on Megan Fox, above, and Kim Kardashian, below.

It’s a trend that looks sexy on all skin tones. “Some women think they can’t wear red,” Joelle said, “but there is a red for everyone. From cherry to crimson, we can find your perfect shade.”

And although red lips spell glamour, wandering lipstick definitely does not. “The key is keeping the red lip looking fresh all day,” Joelle said. So here is an excellent insider tip for keeping those lips cherry.

“Throughout the day use your YSL Touche Éclat to clean up around the edges of the lip,” Joelle recommended.
