Falling For Capes

It’s officially fall and I’ve officially fallen for capes! Sure, it’s in keeping with my perpetual theme of saving the world, but the fact of the matter is, there are a bevy of seriously beautiful wares to choose from! Take a peek at Elie Saab’s crazy tribal zigzag contrast cape, below, or for a bit of animal magnetism, look to Roberto Cavalli’s abbreviated feral find, above, lined in luscious leopard and drenched in glittering gold!Whether you want to be cloaked in mystery, or prefer to make a grand, sweeping statement, here are a few of my favorite capes and cape-dresses!Check out this cape-dress by Lebanese couturier Nicolas Jebran. I adore soft pinks for the winter time, it’s so…….unexpected……and Nicolas Jebran was, as usual, years ahead of his peers when he created this dramatic petal pink cape-dress, back in 2015. This is contemporary haute couture at its very best. It still looks current to this day, eight years later. Jebran creates timeless couture for the modern woman, and the silhouette of the cape is one of the most enduring styles of all.

Going even further back, to 2013, we see that Jebran was already designing an abundance of lavish and luxe capes for every eventuality, such as this heavily-embellished, metallic green short cape, below. Love is definitely in the details! I simply adore the velvet leggings and the supple leather gloves! The textures and colors are utterly opulent! The Versace wool-blend cape , below,  is an ideal wardrobe mainstay. Tricked out with gold buttons and an easy front zip, this versatile short cape would look stellar with leather leggings or a suede pencil skirt, or even with denim. And let’s face it, black is basic. You can’t go wrong with an investment piece such as this! The gold hardware only elevates the piece’s contemporary allure and the generous hood ensures toasty ears, face and neck! Perfectly cozy for wanderlust! I love this little cape. This kind of couture is absolutely eternal. I love how effortless a cape is, not to mention how ideal it is for travel.

Short or long; sheer, or cut from a heavier textile; plain, or trimmed with fur or embroidery, the varied nature of the cape is astounding and makes it an essential piece for every woman’s wardrobe now. Now……Come save the world with me!
