Translating Trends Head to Toe: From the Catwalk to the Sidewalk, Richard Quinn
Hi guys! I’m obsessed! Richard Quinn has dropped the most enchanting collection at London Fashion Week. Quinn’s bounty of beauty was revealed on a dreamy, snow-laden street under the moon, featuring models gliding through a downy drift of snowflakes. The mannequins appeared placid and ethereal, wearing Quinn’s creations which combine some of the top trends in fashion today. It’s a triumph of femininity that will inform street fashion going forward with a few important themes.
Among these themes are the floral motif and of course bows on bows on bows! Today we will translate these two themes into something wearable for the modern woman. We’ll take it from the elite and bring it to the street. I’ll show you how to style these trends for everyday glam. And now, from the catwalk to the sidewalk: the feminine wiles of British couturier, Richard Quinn.
The Floral Motif is huge right now. I’ve witnessed Quinn’s floral fascination as it bloomed from giant, gothic-black, bloated leather roses in 2022 with his nod to the Queen of England, to a more decidedly delicate look in his current collection, below. Flowers are softer, daintier, and often pinned atop a feminine bow. Lovely.
To adapt these beautiful florals for a modern yet appropriate look, one that you can actually wear in *real life* as opposed to the runway, seek floral prints and moulded flowers on dresses and shoes. Badgley Mischka’s blooming beauty below, from Nordstrom, is one such example.
I am also an advocate for flowers worn in the hair. And I make a great argument for it! It won’t necessarily cost a fortune, it’s versatile and festive, yet easy-peasy. With Easter approaching, I cannot think of a single more feminine gesture!
And now, let’s take a bow. Quinn punctuates every single dress with, yes, you guessed it, a beautiful bow. He embellishes the bust and waistlines with bows, cleverly dotted with moulded flowers in ecru, black or blush tones for a new take on vintage decorative elements. It’s so Audrey Hepburn. I also love the neck ruff, seen below, in monochromatic ivory, topped with a bow and a moulded floral. This is all part of the new feminine dressing that is inundating fashion, the kind of dressing that elevates a girl into a woman, and a woman into a lady.
Look for bows as decorative elements on garments. But, like the moulded floral, bows are also adorning shoes, like this cotton-candy pink Antonio Melani slingback from Dillard’s, below. Bows are also worn in the hair ever-so-sweetly. They impart a girlish innocence and harken back to a simpler time. But most importantly, bows facilitate the feminine wiles that are surging into fashion.
From head to toe, I’m seeing flowers and bows! And that, my friends, is how you translate trends from the catwalk to the sidewalk! See you around.
