Significant Others: Stylish Alternatives to Pink and Red for Valentine’s Day
Hi guys! With Valentine’s Day just a heartbeat away, I thought I would provide you all with some stylish alternatives to pink and red dressing. I know that pink and red look festive for February 14, but I would like to emphasize that you can wear other colors just as easily and do a lot with accessories and romantic design elements to create that lovely look. You needn’t be relegated to red or pinned down with pink! So without further adieu, here are some of my most stellar sophisticates for VD and beyond! First, I will discuss monochramtic dressing…..then, we will examine the prints!
Above, fashion designer Norma Kamali nails it! Whether you choose monochrome nude, black or white, Norma’s got you covered…literally! I’ve loved Norma Kamali for years and years, and her online offerings are utterly fabulous! Slide into a slinky slip, left; shimmy into something sheer and black, center; or find your flirtatious side in an abbreviated little white number! Norma will see to it that you look super fine come Valentine’s!
Notice the flowers in each and every model’s hair. Norma knows what’s up. A mere, single blossom, pinned tidily behind one ear, or both ears, goes a long, long way to adding a wistful romance to your VD look! I especially love the hairdo on the left, with its giant rolls of sculpted standing curls. It’s almost Geisha-like!
Dua Lipa can Dua no wrong! I adore her monochromatic black lace catsuit with cutouts. It’s siren status, fosho. But more importantly, Dua styles her catsuit to perfection with a classic ladybug red manicure and one, single, shiny ornament: a scarlett, heart-shaped purse! And, I must add, Dua knows precisely where to position her heart, above right. I really dig an all-black ensemble, punctuated with a pop of pink or a dash of riveting red. And lace is a design element you can wear again and again in any color, but it looks especially seductive in black for St. Valentine’s.
Feeling blue on Valentine’s? Blue seems to be a winning color for the male species; there are so many men, I’ve noticed, whose favorite color is blue! Why is that? Regardless, pastel colors are always ultra feminine on VD. Therefore, I present to you this fab, powder blue mini dress by Oscar de la Renta! A definite departure from the pinks and red you see on VD, it’s a mere $5,890 from Neiman Marcus. But if you have a sewing side and like a challenge, you just may be able to fashion something similar for yourself! Look online and shop local at consignment shops. You never know what you might find. I just love the femininity of this dress, with its enormous, pufffed Sleeves of Interest, which form an imposing bow! Bows are yet another design element that look right for Valentine’s, so take a bow…..or two!
And don’t you dare tell me that there’s anything more alluring than a pastel peach, micro minidress, like the one above by Zimmermann. Note the feminine details: it’s largely lace, with ruffles galore, a peek-a-boo slip, and the perfect strand of pearls. Styled to perfection, this look is just peachy! Literally! Zimmermann really delivers the goods for Valentine’s, with the prettiest monochrome dresses you’ll ever see, but they also make the most arrestingly flirtatious prints….Prints charming, that is!
Check out this adorable Zimmermann halter dotted dress, for example. Polka dots are playful! Wear your hair up to emphasize a long neck, beautiful shoulders, back and arms. Drop earrings swing girlishly and add movement. You cannot go wrong for Valentine’s Day or any day with this little gem of a dress.
Dolce Gabbana and Carolina Herrera also do the dot very well, but I am particulary partial to their florals. Wearing your flowers on Valentine’s always looks fresh and beautiful, as seen in this irresistible, off-shoulder, Carolina Herrera floral mixed-print dress below. Yellow looks fresh, bright and inviting!
Unfortunately, this cutie is from Herrera’s 2019 collection of blooms, but you can easily source it or something similar online. I love the way the designer irreverently mixes dots and flowers. It’s so Christian Lacroix, so very very French!
Regardless of whether you choose a monochrome or printed beauty, you need not feel hemmed in to pink or red this VD. All of these romantic options are your new, significant others, for Valentine’s and beyond. Well, that’s it for today. Ciao for now, from your favorite fashionista!
