V is for a Vintage Valentine’s: Coats
Vintage looks especially romantic on Valentine’s Day and there are so many ways to explore adding a little vintage into your VD wardrobe. I always love finding a dusty jewel at obscure places like art galleries and consignment shops. Today and tomorrow, I’m going to reveal a few of my favorite things in vintage. From clothing to accessories, I’ll show you a few quick ways to add a festive but romantic, dinstinctly-vintage touch to your holiday dressing.
Because the weather is usually pretty universally cold on Valentine’s, a coat or wrap is often necessary. Vintage coats have feminine details that many of their contemporary counterparts are missing, details of a bygone era in fashion. Such details might be: quaint, fabric-upholstered buttons; luxe textiles; unique colors; and chic silhouettes that are sometimes difficult to find in today’s mainstream fashions. That’s why I recommend that every girl invest in at least one beautiful vintage coat. It tops everything off, after all, and there’s no ignoring its glamour when you make your entrance from the bitter cold!
Personally, I’m hung up on this cotton-candy pink, fuzzy vintage coat by Lilli Ann of Paris. I bought this coat on eBay, of all places, more than ten years ago and it was already old at that time! This pre-owned topper is a 1950s gem in mint condition, and I have gotten more wear out of this blush beauty than you would ever imagine. I wear it a few times every year. It suits me up for Valentine’s Day perfectly; I wear it with a red dress, pearls and these raffia pink pumps by Antonio Melani, pictured above and below, $118 at Dillard’s.
Try mixing your vintage and contemporary pieces for a stylish presentation unlike any other! You’ll stand out in the crowd wearing something old with something new. Tune in for accessories, tomorrow!
