Trending: Fun Hosiery in Colors, Patterns, and Textures
There’s still a chill in the air where I sit here in America, but summer is coming and I’m thrilled to get a leg up on the turn of the season with my new fascination in fashion: patterned legwear! In winter months, tights can replace the trouser, and in the summer months, legs are in the limelight even moreso, so what could be more stylish than adorning your gorgeous gams with a striking pair of stockings? Creative hosiery adds visual interest to your look all year ’round and with a variety of ensembles. It also adds a frankly feminine flair that is, honestly, refreshing!
I love, for example, a bright or neon opaque ‘accent leg,’ I like to call it, with an all-black ensemble. Super fun, chic and edgy. Or for a romantic look, lavish your legs in lace, or cozy up to ribbed sweater tights in earthy autumnal tones. No matter how you slice it, colored, patterned, and textured hosiery is hot, especially with the shorter skirts that are coming into fashion.
Notable brands are by design houses like Fendi, Gucci and Dua Lipa’s choice, Louis Vuitton. I prefer some of the pricey labels like Wolford and Givenchy. However, Givenchy is no longer widely available and therefore I poach many of my gorgeous stockings, new-in-box, on eBay or through another online retailer. It’s not necessary to spend big bucks on fun hosiery, however; remember: the whole point of fun hosiery is the fun, which rapidly dissipates when you spend $40 or more on a pair of statement stockings, only to have them snag or snare on the very first wear!
That’s why I’m here to assure you that you needn’t spend an arm on your legs. But as hemlines rise, naturally, I think every girl must acquire a nice little wardrobe of creative hosiery. Here’s what I recommend: a couple of pairs of totally opaque sueded tights in a good basic neutral such as black, charcoal, chocolate or navy; a pair of black lace net tights, which are more sophisticated than ordinary lace, pictured top by Natori; a couple pair of fishnets and dotted or patterned tights, in black and white; and finally, I want you to seriously contemplate adding into the mix a pair of flesh-toned fishnets in your signature nude.
Yes, you heard me: nude fishnets. I consider these the most essential investment right now, and luckily, you can find them hella cheap and almost anywhere. Capezio makes great nude fishnets at a reasonable price. They are very versatile and so alluring and actually enhance the look of your legs because the fishnet technology keeps your stems firm, not flabby. Like I said: Essential! They look equally ideal with a little white summer dress as with slinky nighttime garb, and the nude tone is universally flattering with any color palette.
Nude fishnets make a very deliberate fashion statement, of course, but even better, the color and texture of the tights create a filtered photofinish, a flattering kind of blur on your legs. How great is that? Can’t you see what I’m talking about, above? Just look at the flawless appearance that nude fishnets impart! They are especially flattering on mature women. This is an ageless, sexy look, and way better than bare-legging it. I’m just crazy about nude fishnets. Believe it or not, they’re remarkably tasteful. The choice of many a professional dancer, if nude fishnets are good enough for J. Lo, they’re good enough for me!
